Device: Craftea Chai Maker. What a nice drink to wake up to. It’s a wonderfully gentle process, not the brisk slap in the face of coffee!
Cardamom spice is the key to this simple chai tea latte. Up to twice as much black tea can be used for a potent, authentic Indian chai. Strong, robust CTC black tea is traditionally used in making chai, but you can use other types of tea as well.
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 7 teaspoons natural sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon decorticated (pod removed) cardamom seeds or 10 green cardamom pods
- 2 teaspoons CTC black tea (or more)
In a medium pot, add water, milk and sugar and place on medium-high heat.
Finely grind cardamom seeds in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
When pot comes to a boil, turn off heat, add tea and cardamom, gently stir and cover.
Steep 5 minutes.
Strain through a fine-mesh strainer and serve.
